Anti-Texting While Driving Campaign By Anaheim Teen Goes Nationwide

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — An Anaheim teen has lit up Times Square in New York with her award-winning anti-texting and driving campaign.

Emily McDonald came up with the slogan "better left unread than dead" to discourage teens from the risky behavior.

Now, her artwork is going up on billboards across the country with a premiere in the Big Apple.

The Oxford Academy senior believes the message resonates more when it comes from a peer.

"When no one is around, when no cops are around, when no one's looking, everyone is trying to just get away with things but when it's coming from another person your age, it might be more beneficial," she said.

McDonald received a $2,000 scholarship as a result of her award-winning slogan.

She plans to use the money for college.
