Another fatal shooting at site of Riverside memorial for two others killed earlier this week

Fatal shooting occurs outside of vigil for triple shooting in same area just days earlier in Riversi

One man was shot and killed late Thursday night at the site of a memorial in Riverside for two others who were shot and killed earlier this week near the same spot.

The shooting occurred on Pierce Street, near La Sierra Avenue, according to Riverside police spokesman Ryan Railsback.

The shooting victim was at a memorial site for the other victims of a triple-shooting which occurred in the early morning hours Wednesday and left two dead and a third in serious condition.

Thursday night's victim was shot in the head, Railsback said. Paramedics performed CPR before he was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately provided.

His family did detail that he was a resident of the complex where the shooting occurred, and a young father. He was attending the vigil for his friend who was killed Wednesday in the initial shooting.

Neighbors in the nearby area told CBS reporters that the vigil seemed to be family friendly earlier in the evening, but after midnight was when the arguing broke out, leading to the shooting.

One of those residents, Marcos Rodriguez, detailed a "bunch of guys hanging out outside the building ... just doing their normal stuff hanging out and talking. They had kids around, it was pretty normal."

It's unclear how the two incidents may be connected. No suspect information or a possible motive was immediately disclosed.

On Saturday, Riverside police disclosed that they had arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting, and identified the victim as Anthony Daniel Hayward, 28, of Riverside.

At about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, Riverside police responded to the same area to find two people with gunshot wounds. One died at the scene and a second was taken to a hospital.

A third shooting victim was found in a car whose occupants flagged down officers on a 91 freeway offramp. The group in the car said the man had been shot and stopped breathing. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died. Investigators later determined that the man had also been shot at the Pierce Street location.

Authorities detailed that they have taken three suspects into custody for the shooting that occurred Wednesday evening, and now they're looking for another as the suspect in Friday morning's incident is still outstanding.

They plan on interviewing other residents who may have seen anything worth noting.

"There were people here that, apparently, may have witnessed this so we would like them to come forward so we could get this person in custody," Railsback concluded.
