Another Dog Has Been Found Badly Burned In Southern California's High Desert
PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) — A dog named Taco is recovering from injuries Friday after suffering burns on his body.
The animal was found Thursday night in Apple Valley with acid burns down its back. It is being cared for at Mission Animal Hospital in Palmdale.
Six dogs in the high desert have suffered similar injuries since August.
Beth Newhill with Doggie Smiles Rescue in the Antelope Valley has been helping with some of the injured dogs. She said all of the animals were found roaming the streets in pain with horrific burns to their backs.
"There is animal cruelty out there, and everybody is well aware of it," Newhill said.
Last month, a pit bull named Chrissy was burned with acid. So was a golden retriever named Fergus. Another dog has since been adopted. Two others had to be put down because their injuries were too severe.
"It's heartbreaking. It's heartbreaking, and it's disgusting," Newhill said.
Tests are being done to determine what type of acid was used in the attacks. Authorities do not know if the attacks are related.
"There's no point for it. There's no reason why anybody would need to or want to do this to any living creature," said Newhill.
Chrissy is expected to be OK, as is Taco. But both animals have high medical costs and are in need of donations.
