Anaheim Man Charged With Murder In Death Of Mom's Boyfriend

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A 27-year-old Anaheim man was charged Tuesday with murder in the stabbing of his mother's boyfriend over the weekend.

Ruben Martinez is accused of fatally stabbing 52-year-old Maximino Fuentes Clara, of Garden Grove, in an unincorporated area near Anaheim just before 8:15 p.m. Sunday at Cerritos Avenue and Perdido Street, according to Orange County sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock.

Clara, who had a "dating relationship" with Martinez's mother, suffered multiple stab wounds in the upper body, Hallock said.

Martinez also faces a sentencing enhancement for the use of a dangerous or deadly weapon, prosecutors said.

The two got into some sort of fight in the street, but it's not clear what prompted the conflict, Hallock said.

Martinez, who has a 2009 conviction for carjacking and a 2008 conviction for stealing a car in Riverside County, faces up to 52 years to life in prison if convicted, according to Senior Deputy District Attorney Keith Burke.

Anyone with more information about the case can call the sheriff's department at (714) 647-7044 or (714)647-7000.
