Amtrak Train Collides With Vehicle In Camarillo

CAMARILLO (CBSLA.com) — An Amtrak train slammed into a vehicle around 8 p.m. Sunday in Ventura County.

Pacific Surfliner train 796 was bound for Los Angeles and San Diego, when it hit a green sedan in Camarillo, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

It happened near 5th and Pleasant Valley Road.

The train did not tip over.

Firefighters checked the cars to assess the 86 passengers aboard. It's not yet known if any of them were injured.

The sedan left on the tracks had two passengers, who were standing several feet away and were not injured. It was unclear why the vehicle was left there.

Amtrak arranged for buses to transport passengers to L.A.

The crash happened three miles east of the crossing at Rice Avenue in Oxnard, where a Metrolink commuter train hit a truck last Tuesday. Twenty-eight passengers and crew members were injured in the collision.
