Cosmo Magazine's Cover Of Kardashians As 'America's First Family' Draws Outrage

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — The Kardashians, labeled as "America's First Family" on the November issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, is drawing controversy.

"I personally find it offensive. And I really wish the Kardashians would just go away," said tourist Lynn Kieffer.

Another woman said: "I think it's real disrespectful to the real first family"

People took to twitter to lash out at the reality-television family and the magazine. One person posted: "If that's America's first family, I'm moving to Canada."

Even Ebony magazine weighed in with a photo of the Obamas and posted: "We love our First Family."

USC marketing professor Jeetendr Sehdev said: "The Kardashians first and foremost are among the biggest and most powerful brands in the world." The celebrity-branding expert said Cosmopolitan's move is not outrageous.

The millions who follow the Kardashians and the millions the reality stars make off their fame are proof that Americans have embraced the Kardashians whether they admit or not.

"There's no signs that the Kardashinas are fading away as of yet. They have truly infiltrated themselves into the culture into the fabric of American society," Sehdev said.

In response to the backlash, Cosmopolitan released a statement: "We are teasing! Though who knows, if Kayne runs for president then we may be soothsayers. The Kardashians and Jenners have more digital followers than any other family, more than 350 million and counting. They are a huge cultural phenomenon. What we do know is there is nothing like the cover of a magazine to provoke a national conversation."

One millennial said: "They can't really do anything, but they have the money. I don't know, and they just do some normal stuff, and it's extraordinary."

Apparently, the magazine isn't sitting well with some people.
