Man arrested for suspicious toilet with note stating its a bomb at Americana Mall

Suspicious toilet at the Americana in Glendale prompts evacuations

A 22-year-old man from Burbank was arrested in connection with a bomb threat involving a toilet at The Americana at Brand Mall in Glendale.

According to the Glendale Police Department, officers responded around 8 p.m. on Thursday after receiving calls about a man placing a toilet on the grassy area in front of the AMC theatre. A note was also left with the toilet indicating that it was a bomb. 

Mall security and Glendale police evacuated the area and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad was called for assistance around 9:10 p.m., according to a sheriff's department.

Using witness accounts and security video footage, police identified Timothy Taratchila as a suspect and took him into custody.

The evacuation was lifted just after 11 p.m. once the LASD Bomb Squad declared the device and the area safe.
