Amazon's Patent Application For 'Selfie Pay' May Make Passwords Relic Of Past

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Passwords may become a relic of the past.

That's because Amazon Technologies, Inc. has filed a patent for Selfie Pay.

In its patent filing motion, the company says it will use an "authentication process that prompts the user to perform an action in view of a camera or sensor."

Amazon says facial recognition is more secure than a password or PIN number.

"The process identifies the user and verifies that the user requesting the transaction is a living human being," the application indicated.
