Alta Loma High School Student Arrested After Tweets Show Him With Replica Gun On Campus

RANCHO CUCAMONGA (CBSLA.com) — An 18-year-old Alta Loma High School student was arrested Monday in connection with a series of tweets that appeared to show him with a gun on his school's campus.

Andrew Riccardi, 18, was arrested about noon at the school after an investigation by Rancho Cucamonga police detectives.

The tweets had said, "Well mom said I had to go to school better pop the trunk first," alongside a picture of Riccardi holding what appeared to be a real gun, authorities said.

After his arrest in front of his classmates, Riccardi admitted to sending the tweets and told the officers the weapons pictured were replica guns, police said. Riccardi's parents were aware of the situation and allowed deputies to search their home. Deputies determined that Riccardi's father has gun safes that require a fingerprint ID to open and concluded that Andrew Riccardi did not have access to real firearms, police said.

Riccardi was booked on suspicion of possession of a weapon at school and possession of a martial-arts weapon found in his bedroom, as well as the two large, fixed-blade knives found in his vehicle on campus.
