Artist To Transform Aging LA Hotel Into Temporary Work Of Art

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Its days may be numbered but it looks as if LA's seedy, long-abandoned Sunset Pacific Hotel may be going out in style.

French artist Vincent Lamouroux says he plans to turn the building, once a haven for drug dealers and prostitutes, into an "iconic piece of LA's architectural history."

But only for a couple weeks.

Beginning April 20 the artist plans to bathe the aging Sunset Boulevard structure and its surrounding trees in white lime paint.

The work, titled "Projection," will be unveiled April 26.

For the next two weeks it will anchor arts education programs in conjunction with local schools.

Then its paint is expected to fade, returning it to original form.

A September hearing will determine whether the building, an eyesore in a gentrifying neighborhood, is torn down.
