Active Military Airspace Restrictions Continue For Flights At LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Flight paths of airplanes arriving at Los Angeles International Airport during overnight hours will be redirected due to military restrictions, Federal Aviation Administration officials said Thursday.

Airplanes that are scheduled to land between the hours of midnight and 6:30 a.m. have been ordered to approach from the east of LAX through Sunday.

According to the FAA, the airport normally uses "over-ocean operations" during this time frame to minimize the amount of noise in nearby neighborhoods.

However, when military airspace is active, planes are unable to arrive from the west.

During this time of year, about 50 to 55 planes land at LAX during the overnight hours.
