Academic Dean At Kern County Charter School Suspected Of Child Pornography
BAKERSFIELD (AP) — An official at a Bakersfield-area charter school who previously played in the NFL has been arrested on suspicion of distributing child pornography.
The Kern County District Attorney's Office says James Ameer Wofford, the academic dean at Grimmway Academy, was arrested this week. He resigned from the school in Arvin on Wednesday.
Prosecutors say he allegedly used a smartphone app to transmit child porn.
Wofford is scheduled for arraignment Sept. 8 on felony counts including distributing obscene matter of a child under 18 years old.
It wasn't immediately known if he has a lawyer.
Grimmway Academy said in a statement that there is no evidence of improper communication with students or staff.
Wofford previously played in the NFL, as a member of the Minnesota Vikings.
