8-Year-Old Boy Fatally Struck By Garbage Truck In Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — An 8-year-old boy riding a bicycle was fatally injured in a collision with a garbage truck Wednesday afternoon in Newport Beach.

The boy was struck about 1:30 p.m. on 15th Street between Irvine and Fullerton avenues near Newport Heights Elementary School, as he was biking home from the school.

One mother said the stretch of road is notoriously dangerous for kids, with many speeding drivers.

The boy's name was withheld pending family notification.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
