$170K Reward Offered in Da Vinci Apartments Fire
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — City and federal officials Wednesday announced a $170,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the massive fire at a downtown apartment complex under construction.
The reward was discussed during a 9:15 a.m. news conference at City Hall by the Los Angeles police and fire departments and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The Dec. 8 fire at the 1.3-million-square-foot Da Vinci apartments, located at 900 West Temple Street, destroyed the 7-story complex.
It also damaged a two nearby high-rises and a portion of the Harbor (110) Freeway.
"Investigators recovered sufficient evidence to eliminate all known potential accidental causes and determine the fire was intentionally set," the Los Angeles Fire Department said in a written statement in December.
The massive fire caused between $25 million to $30 million in damage.
Authorities have released video of two people they are calling "potential witnesses."
"We know the case and we know the accelerant used. Obviously, I can't go into those details but it's a very active investigation. We're running down some promising leads. We asking the public for their assistance," ATF Special Agent Carlos Canino said.
No suspects have been named and no arrests have been made.
