Boy, 7, Dies In Apparent Accidental Shooting In Adelanto

ADELANTO (CBSLA.com) — A 7-year-old child died Thursday evening after authorities say he accidentally shot himself in San Bernardino County.
Deputies received a call about 4:54 p.m. of an accidental shooting of a boy in the 18000 block of Bellflower Street near the corner of Bartlett Avenue in Adelanto.
"I saw the cops come and the ambulance and the fire department and I watched them carry out what looked to be a child. We weren't very happy to see that," Jessica Lester, a neighbor, said.
The child was rushed by ambulance to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff's officials said the child accidentally shot himself.
"That's horrible. That's why I don't own guns," Lester added. "It's horrible. It's absolutely horrible. I could never imagine that happening to me."
Detectives haven't disclosed who the gun belongs to nor how the child got ahold of the firearm.
Neighbors said the child's family moved to the area just last week from out of state.
The family lives near a church and a member of that church told CBS2's Crystal Cruz that the boy's father is one of their new pastors.
An investigation was underway.
Adelanto is about 9 miles northwest of Victorville.
