7 Teens Charged In $1M Mansion Break-In Deny Criminal Charges
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — Seven teens on Wednesday denied criminal charges stemming from a break-in at a La Habra Heights mansion last year that allegedly resulted in more than $1 million in damages.
City News Service reports the defendants - six boys and one girl - are scheduled to return to Juvenile Court for a June 3 hearing.
Seven other defendants are scheduled to return to court May 1.
The charges stem from a so-called "ghost party" allegedly held at the $7 million home overnight, between November 23 and 24, while the owner was away.
Authorities say the party was promoted on social media and brought more than 100 teens to the 90,000-square-foot residence.
According to investigators, partygoers entered through a window, trashed the home and stole several pricey items, including designer suits, medieval armor, jewelry and the mounted leopard. Much of the loot was later recovered.
The teens, who were 15 to 17 years old at the time, all face misdemeanor trespassing charges.
Nine of the defendants are charged with felony residential burglary, and four with grand theft.
Other charges against some of the teens include petty theft and charging for admission to a party in a residential area.
