6-Year-Old Hemet Girl May Have Saved Mom With 911 Call

HEMET (AP) — A 6-year-old Southern California girl may have given her mother something extra-special this Mother's Day weekend — her life.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise says the Hemet girl call 911 Saturday morning to say her mother wasn't responding.

Fire Capt. Bill Herder says the woman is diabetic had become unconscious because of a dangerously low blood sugar level.

Such events can be fatal unless treated.

Only the woman's daughter was home. Herder says the girl remained calm and stayed on the line with a dispatcher until paramedics arrived.

The mother was treated at a hospital and released.

Herder says the girl "did the right thing and was very brave."
