CBS News Los Angeles

A 6-year-old girl was killed and five others injured during a two-car crash in Palmdale late Saturday morning.

It happened at around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Pearblossom Highway and 25th Street East, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators say the crash happened when a 55-year-old woman driving a 2022 gray Subaru Outback northbound ran a red light and broadsided a 2014 Toyota Camry traveling eastbound, which had a green light.

Six people were rushed to nearby hospitals, where one of the victims, the 6-year-old girl, later died, deputies said.

The five others suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious, said a statement from LASD's Palmdale Station.

"The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information at this time," the release said.

It's unclear if any arrests were made.

Anyone who knows more is asked to contact LASD at (661) 272-2400.
