6-Year-Old Boy Slightly Injured During Sunday's CicLAvia Event

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 6-year-old boy was slightly injured after being knocked down from his bike during Sunday's CicLAvia event.

The incident happened around 1 p.m., after someone crashed into the child's bike, the LAPD said in a written statement.

The boy, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, bumped his head on the pavement, according to police.

First responders arrived and treated him at the scene.

Then, he was released.

The LAPD said Sgt. Seagrave, who witnessed the collision, got ahold of the child's parents and three brothers, none of whom had helmets.

Because the family only had $3 in cash on them, the sergeant subsequently purchased helmets for the children from a nearby bike shop.

CicLAvia was inspired by a similar car-free event in Bogota, Colombia. The next CicLAvia event for Los Angeles is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Dec. 7.
