Bruins To Play First Game At Pauley Pavilion Since Water Main Break
WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — The UCLA Bruins were set Friday to play the first exhibition game of the college basketball season on a totally refurbished hardwood floor.
The Bruins will take on Azuza Pacific at Pauley Pavilion nearly three months after the historic arena was flooded by a water main break near the UCLA campus in Westwood.
Since the flooding, the Bruins held practice at the nearby Student Activities Center, which has a smaller-sized court than Pauley, The Associated Press reported.
UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO that the cleanup effort has been an overwhelming success.
"There was considerable damage on the north end of the building where most of the water hit and we literally had to reconstruct that entire area," said Guerrero. "It's all good."
An estimated 20 million gallons of water flooded the section of campus where Pauley is located on July 30, devastating Pauley's hardwood floor along with the team's locker room, training and weight rooms.
The arena underwent a $136 million upgrade two years ago.
