57-Year-Old Man Charged With Assaulting Teen Playing Pokémon Go In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) —  Authorities have formally charged a 57-year-old Long Beach man for assaulting a teenager who was playing Pokémon Go on Wednesday evening.

The Los Angeles County D.A.'s Office announced. Jayson Louis Lingen has been charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

The D.A. also alleges that the defendant was previously convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in 2013.

Lingen was scheduled for arraignment Friday  at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Long Beach Branch.

Prosecutors said on Wednesday a 17-year-old boy was playing Pokémon Go in the 70 block of Aquarium Way in Long Beach.

As the teenager was roaming the area, Lingen allegedly yelled at the victim and hit him in the head with a metal pole, prosecutors said.

Following the alleged assault, authorities were called and police took Lingen into custody, the D.A. added.

If convicted on the charges, the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of 13 years behind bars.

The case is being investigated by the Long Beach Police Department.
