50-Foot Tree Crashes Into Elderly Woman's Burbank Home

BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — A 50-foot tree crashed into an elderly woman's Burbank home during the height of Friday's storm.

The incident happened just before 2 p.m. in the 300 block of North Beachwood Drive, according to Burbank Fire Capt. Peter Hendrickson.

The tree crashed in the front yard, sending branches and rain into the 87-year-old woman's living room.

The woman, who was home at the time, escaped out a back door.

"It made a loud noise and shook her house. She didn't know what happened," a neighbor said.

"[She was] terrified. Just terrified. Very unfortunate," resident Mary Torossian said. "They're more than neighbors. They're really families. And they stick together. Especially in times like this. We're together. We're there for each other."

Firefighters and a team of workers used a crane and chainsaws to remove the tree, which was planted back in the 1930s.

The house was later inspected and determined to be "structurally sound."

The woman is now staying with relatives.
