Five people hospitalized after shooting in Willowbrook

One person was killed and four others were injured during a shooting in Willowbrook on Friday.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene, located outside of a shopping center on the corner of El Segundo Boulevard and San Pedro Street, a little before 2:30 p.m. after learning of shots fired in the area, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. 

Paramedics took the five victims to nearby hospitals for injuries of varying severity, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department. 

One of the victims, a 32-year-old man, died after arriving at the hospital. Of the other four victims, all men between 40 and 50 years old, one is in critical condition while the rest are said to be stable.

Investigators say that the shooting occurred when an unidentified man walked up to the group and opened fire. He was last seen running from the area on foot southbound on San Pedro Street. 

The other three are said to have suffered minor injuries, according to a LACoFD spokesperson.

The motive behind the incident remains unclear.
