5 Firefighters Injured While Battling Compton Garage Fire

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — Five firefighters were treated for minor injuries Sunday, which were sustained while extinguishing a fire in Compton overnight.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, crews were sent around 11:18 p.m. Saturday for report of a structure fire located in the 800 block of East Laurel Street.

Once on scene, firefighters located a detached garage fully involved in flames.

Authorities explained the injured firefighters sustained injuries when the roof collapsed. They were transported to a hospital from the scene for treatment.

No other injuries were reported.

Crews from the Downey, Compton, Vernon and Los Angeles County Fire Departments assisted in knocking down the three-alarm fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation
