4 White Sharks Spotted Off Coast Of Manhattan Beach Pier

HERMOSA BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Four juvenile white sharks of unknown size were spotted off the coast of the Manhattan Beach pier on Sunday morning, a Hermosa lifeguard confirmed to CBSLA.

Lifeguard Kylie Daniels says the water was not cleared of swimmers following the sightings as that protocol is only observed in instances where the sharks are larger than eight feet and are acting aggressively.

Daniels also said he could not corroborate earlier claims that the sharks were circling swimmers.

The sightings were reported to lifeguards around 10:30 a.m., according to the official Twitter page for the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Lifeguard Division.

Tweets posted on the page indicated that lifeguards monitored the sharks for around 30 minutes and used boats to push them offshore.

"Sometimes, when the water's warm, and the conditions warrant, we can spot a lot of sharks...meaning three or four sharks, but they're fairly docile, they're young, juvenile six-footers," said Terry Yamamoto of L.A. County Fire.

The sharks were last seen heading toward Hermosa Beach.

No shark-related advisories have been issued.
