4.4-Magnitude Quake Strikes Near Fontana

FONTANA (AP) — A 4.4-magnitude earthquake rattled the Inland Empire early Wednesday morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake struck 3 miles north of Fontana at 1:35 a.m.

The Fontana Police Department and San Bernardino Sheriff's Department both say there were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries.

"I was on the phone with my girlfriend and then all of the sudden, crash! I felt everything and the entire store was shaking. I was mid-step and it almost knocked my off my feet," Justin Smith, a 7-Eleven clerk, said.

Most residents posting to the USGS community internet intensity map reported the quake felt light to weak. Some residents of Fontana and San Bernardino reported the shaking as moderate.
