3rd Cyclist Struck, Killed In Huntington Beach In 4-Month Span
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Bicyclists in Huntington Beach are wondering if the city streets have become too dangerous after a third rider in a four-month span was struck by a vehicle and killed.
Katherine Sieberhein, 44, was hit at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday on Adams Avenue near Ranger Lane as she was riding to church. She died hours later.
Authorities said an elderly Fountain Valley man was behind the wheel. He was questioned and released.
The victim's father, Rudy Sieberhein, shared what was important to his daughter.
"Making people happy. Being happy, family…what's left of it," he said.
Three cyclists have been killed in Huntington Beach so far in 2014. That compares to no deaths last year.
Ten days ago, 34-year-old Genevieve Hall was mowed down by a hit-and-run driver. The case still hasn't been solved.
Police said none of the riders were wearing helmets, KCAL9's Michele Gile reported.
"Trouble is, people are driving crazier now," Rudy said.
