3 Members Of Family Die In 2-Car Collision In Palmdale

PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) —  Three members of one family were killed Friday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Palmdale.

The crash was reported just after 10:30 p.m., officials said.

The accident occurred on the southbound lanes of the 14 Freeway.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Supervising Dispatcher Eddie Pickett said a 6-year-old boy in the car was also airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.

Authorities said the family was traveling in a black 2004 Toyota Corolla when they were rear-ended by a 2013 silver Tesla just south of Avenue S.

The vehicle caught fire after the collision.

The three family members were declared dead at the scene, Pickett said.

The family members were described as a 40-year-old male resident of Los Angeles, and two boys -- one 13 and the other 8.

The Tesla driver, a 58-year-old man from Newhall, sustained minor injuries.

He was not arrested pending an investigation.
