3 Killed In Multi-Vehicle Crash On PCH Near Point Mugu State Beach

POINT MUGU (CBSLA.com) — Three people were killed Tuesday in a multi-vehicle crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura County.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight in the southbound lanes of the 7800 block of PCH just one mile north of Point Mugu State Beach, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officials say the driver of a Mercedes was speeding on the PCH when the vehicle struck a Honda, which split that car in half.

"It was reported to be speeding through the Malibu area earlier, as it came northbound near La Jolla Canyon Road, it began to lose control, went off the road a little bit and began to spin counter-clockwise," Sgt David Hong said.

Two men, ages 55 and 61, riding in the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene. The unidentified driver of the Mercedes was also killed.

The PCH was shut down for about an hour and a half, but all lanes were reopened by 4:50 a.m.
