3 Robbery Suspects Killed After Police Pursuit Ends In Crash On 101 Freeway In Echo Park

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Three robbery suspects were killed and a fourth was critically injured after a short pursuit ended in a crash along the 101 Freeway in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles early Friday morning.

The crash occurred at about 4 a.m. on the northbound 101 Freeway off-ramp at Rampart Boulevard. According to Los Angeles police, officers were pursuing an Infiniti SUV carrying four men when the vehicle rolled and was crushed.

Three of the men died on scene, the L.A. Fire Department reports. The fourth man was extricated from the wreckage using the Jaws of Life and rushed to a hospital in critical condition. All the victims were in their 20s or 30s. No names were released.

The pursuit began at Sunset Boulevard and Logan Street and only lasted about three minutes, police said. No officers were hurt.

A Sig Alert was in effect as of 10 a.m. One northbound lane of the 101 Freeway was closed and northbound on-and-off ramps were shut down at Rampart Boulevard. Traffic was backed up for miles and morning commuters were advised to avoid the area.

The circumstances and location of the robbery were not released.
