Man Killed, 2 Women In Mid-City House Fire

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 36-year-old man was killed and two women injured Tuesday morning in a Mid-City house fire

The fire was reported around 5:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of South Orange Drive, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one room of a single-story home.

Two women suffered smoke inhalation and were treated on the scene. A man, who was found in his bedroom where the fire started, was declared dead at the scene, the LAFD said.

The victim reportedly liked to use candles in his room and authorities were looking into that as the cause.

The residence did not have smoke detectors, according to Chief Steve Ruda.

It took 51 firefighters 14 minutes to knock down the flames.

Tuesday's death marked the seventh fire fatality for the city of Los Angeles in 2014.
