3 Injured, Cat Killed After Fire Erupts In Lake Forest Home

LAKE FOREST (CBSLA.com) — Crews Monday extinguished a blaze that erupted inside of a two-story home in Orange County.

Shortly after 5 a.m., firefighters were sent to a home located in the 80 block of Carriage Drive for report of a second alarm fire, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

By 6 a.m., about 50 firefighters were able to extinguish the flames.

A preliminary investigation revealed a family of four were sleeping upstairs when smoke alarms alerted them to the fire. The mother and father were able to get their children outside.

Three patients -- a woman in her 40s, a 15-year-old female, and a 12-year-old male -- were transported to Western Medical Center Santa Ana for treatment of smoke inhalation and minor facial burns.

Authorities said the victims are expected to survive.

One cat was killed in the fire, officials added.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
