3 Hospitalized After Suspect Opens Fire Outside South LA Home

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Three shooting victims were recovering Friday after a suspect opened fire on their vehicle.

Just before 10 p.m. on Thursday night, officers were sent to a home located in the 2000 block of West 99th Street, near the corner of Cimarron Street, for report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Upon their arrival, authorities located a 4-year-old boy, an 11-year-old boy and an 18-year-old who sustained injuries in the shooting.

Paramedics transported the three victims to UCLA Harbor in stable condition.

Shortly after 6 a.m., the two younger victims were released from the hospital.

Officers said the children were innocent victims who became caught in the middle of gunfire.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a 19-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting, however, they did not sustain any injuries.

A preliminary investigation has revealed a suspect approached the vehicle as it returned home and opened fire on the victims.

Police said the shooting is believed to be gang-related.

The suspect has been described as an African American man who fled from the scene on foot, according to detectives.
