3-Alarm Blaze Rips Through Arcadia Apartment Complex

ARCADIA (CBSLA.com) – Dozens of people were displaced when a three-alarm fire broke out at an apartment complex in Arcadia Thursday morning.

The blaze was reported before 6:15 a.m. at 832 Fairview Ave., according to Verdugo Fire Communications dispatchers. Crews from five agencies responded. The blaze destroyed the roof of the two-story apartment complex before it was brought under control by 7:30 a.m. There were no injuries.

"I smelled something like propane gas burning, so did my dad," said one man. "So he got dressed and went outside, and he saw smoke, and he started screaming, 'fire, fire!'"

Fourteen units have been declared uninhabitable and 35 to 45 people have been displaced, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials.

The fire may have been sparked by a transformer located near the building, which had undergone repairs on Wednesday, LACFD said.
