15 Freeway Remains Open As Crews Battle 25-Acre Brush Fire In Lake Elsinore

LAKE ELSINORE (CBSLA.com) — A vehicle collision reportedly set off a 25-acre brush fire and downed power lines Monday afternoon along the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore.

The blaze was ignited around 2 p.m. when a pickup truck hauling a trailer overturned near a propane yard and caught fire, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

A large pile of corrugated plastic pipe was burning and sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky.

A passenger in the pickup truck was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. Four other passengers refused treatment.

California Highway Patrol has closed Temescal Canyon Rd. between Hostettler Road and Lester Road.

However, both sides of the 15 remained open.

Fire officials said nearby commercial structures weren't threatened.

Southern California Edison was assisting with the downed power lines, but it was unclear if they caused an outage.
