200 Square Miles Of Inglewood, Covina Quarantined After Discovery Of Oriental Fruit Fly

INGLEWOOD (AP) — Authorities have quarantined more than 200 square miles of Southern California land after discovering crop-eating Oriental fruit flies.

California agriculture officials on Wednesday announced quarantines for a 134-square-mile area in and around Inglewood and a 75-square-mile area in and around Covina.

People living in those areas are being asked not to remove any home-grown vegetables or fruits from their property.

The Oriental fruit fly is a pest found throughout much of southern Asia. The fly feeds on more than 230 kinds of fruits and vegetables.
