2-year-old boy abducted in Buena Park found safe
A two-year old boy who was abducted when the vehicle he was inside was stolen has been recovered safely on Tuesday.
Buena Park police say the boy was inside a van taken Emery School in the 8600 block of Somerset Street, where his mother had ran inside to drop something off to her older child.
The van, a 2017 Toyota Sienna, was left running with the child strapped in his car seat when two suspects jumped inside at around 9:30 a.m. and fled from the area, ending up in Anaheim.
Police are still searching for one of the two suspects, after locating one in Anaheim after he attempted to use one of the woman's credit cards.
Daniel Espinosa, the assistant manager at E World, where the suspect attempted to use the stolen card, detailed the events to CBS reporter Michele Gile.
"It felt like a movie," he said. "The suspect in the case walked into our store trying to purchase a speaker. He tried to use the mom's credit card, which then alerted the police. So, the police called us right away to try to stop him from leaving. Which, he then left and I took a 20 minute chase leading the police, helping them to find him."
Just before 11 a.m., a woman living in the 9900 block of Chanticleer Road saw the minivan with its door open, found the boy inside and brought him into her home, said Buena Park police Sgt. Chad Weaver. The boy was later reunited with his family at the Buena Park police station.
"Mom was upset, but they were very happy the kid was unharmed," Weaver said.
Police are still searching for the second suspect involved in the incident. They're unsure whether the person who attempted to use the credit card was the same person responsible for the stolen van.
