2 Trapped People Rescued From East Hollywood Apartment Fire
EAST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA) – Firefighters rescued two people from an apartment building fire in East Hollywood Tuesday morning, one of whom was found unconscious, and a second who was found hanging out a window.
The fire was reported at about 6:15 a.m. at a nine-unit apartment building in the 400 block of North Ardmore Avenue.
Los Angeles Fire Department crews arrived to find a woman trapped by flames and smoke in a second-story apartment. She was rescued with a ladder from the upstairs window.
"When the resources got on scene, they found a two-story garden-style apartment with fire coming from one unit on the second floor, with an individual hanging out of a window that was in need of rescue," LAFD Battalion Chief William Peralta told CBSLA. "During their search they found one additional patient, unconscious."
The unconscious patient did not have a pulse and was not breathing, the fire department reports. Paramedics were able to restore the patient's pulse on scene and rush them to a hospital in critical condition. The victim's gender and age were not disclosed.
The rescued woman was also taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.
Firefighters encountered "heavy smoke and high heat as they accessed the apartment unit," Peralta said. "They ended up finding fire in the unit that extended up into the common attic."
The fire was extinguished within 24 minutes. The cause is under investigation. The number of people displaced by the fire was unclear, Peralta said.
