2 Special Ed Students Hurt After Teacher's Aide Allegedly Threw Chairs In Classroom

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A LAUSD special education teacher's aide faced battery charges Monday for allegedly attacking students and staff at Van Nuys Elementary, prosecutors said.

Linda Hovanec, 56, faces three counts of misdemeanor battery and one count of child endangerment after she allegedly caused a disturbance in the classroom, shoving tables and throwing chairs, injuring two students, according to City Attorney Mike Feuer.

Feuer said in a statement he has made protecting children a central tenet of his administration, including the recently created new position of School Safety Coordinator.

Hovanec plead not guilty during an arraignment Wednesday. Her bail is set at $30,000.
