2 Missing Hikers Found Deceased

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)   —   Authorities said two missing hikers have been found deceased.

Just after 1:35 p.m. Saturday, Deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station and Sheriffs Aviation 40K1 team responded to the area of the Amboy Crater and National Trails Highway following the report of two lost hikers.

The 40k1 crew located an adult male and female, both 50 - 60 years of age, deceased in the area.

It was unclear how long the couple was missing. Their names have not been released.

CBS 2's Cristy Fajardo said they were from Yorba Linda.

The woman was apparently able to call 911 for help but rescue crews didn't reach the couple in time. Crews also searched by air to no avail.

The man and the woman were found about 100 feet from each other, officials said.

Temperatures in the area reached 108 degrees today.

Sheriff's Deputies were quick to point out that this couple is not to be confused with a missing couple that was last seen more than three weeks ago in the Joshua Tree area.

Friends continue to look for Joshua Orbeso and Rachel Nguyen, both 20 and from Orange County. They were last seen July 27.
