2 Missing Hikers Found By Antelope Valley Search And Rescue Squad

PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) — The Antelope Valley Search and Rescue team Sunday found two missing hikers in the Angeles National Forest on the Vincent Gap Traihead.

Ernie Gallardo and Joey Linares, both 29, failed to return from a hike Saturday to a predetermined rendezvous location with a friend.

Search and Rescue personnel looked for the men all night without success.

At daybreak, a motorist told searchers he passed a male hiker who was looking over the side of the road in a way that suggested there was a problem.

The motorist reported the male hiker was about half-mile from the search crew's command post.

The hikers said they began hiking at about noon Saturday, but failed to return before darkness hit. They attempted to get back but became disoriented and decided to wait until morning before attempting to hike back to their vehicle.

The men were dressed somewhat lightly, but started a small fire to keep warm.

They were rescued at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Both men were in good shape and declined medical treatment.
