2 Men Charged In Connection With Shooting Death Of 4-Year-Old Boy In Highland

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Two men were charged on Monday in connection with the murder of a 4-year-old boy in Highland.

According to the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office, Darron Daniels, 20, of Moreno Valley, and Maurice Kelley, 25, of San Bernardino, were each charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies were sent to the 7400 block of McKinley Street for report of shots heard in the area.

Authorities located a young boy suffering from an apparent gunshot wound upon their arrival to the scene.

Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital where he died. He was later identified as Daniel Munoz, of Riverside.

A preliminary investigation revealed Munoz had been playing with a stuffed animal in the front yard of his grandmother's home when the shooting occurred.

Witness interviews subsequently led to the arrest of both men.

"This is still an active investigation, but one thing is certain," said District Attorney Mike Ramos. "Whether this is gang-related or not, an innocent child was shot and killed and taken away from us."

"We will not allow for our children to be gunned down," Ramos added. "The cowards who committed this senseless crime will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law, and justice will be served for Daniel and his family."

Daniels and Kelley are being held on $1 million at the Central Detention Center.

Both men are expected to be arraigned today.
