2 Kids Accused Of Stealing Toy Truck Valued At $300 From Huntington Beach Store

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Two boys likely younger than the age of 8 are accused of stealing a radio-controlled truck valued at $300 in an incident the store owner says was captured on video.

Michele Sabrowsky says the incident happened two days ago at Rob's R/C Hobbies in Huntington Beach.

"I've never seen anything like that, ever," said Sabrowsky who was working behind-the-counter at the store owned by her and her husband.

"It's horrifying. I mean, just the thought of those two little kids being taught by somebody how to steal is just, it makes you sick," Sabrowsky said.

According to Sabrowsky, three boys accompanied by an adult walked into the store together to look at a Nitro Rustler radio-controlled truck.

She says she never expected what happened next.

"They were stealing one item at a time," she said.

Footage captured one of the smaller boys allegedly grab a bottle of fuel from the shelf before she says he walked out of the front door.

But Sabrowsky says that was only the beginning.

Sabrowsky says she spent time showing the group the truck they said they wanted to buy. At one point, she says, they even approached the counter waving cash.

"He only had $300 cash on him," she said.

Sabrowsky says the man told her he would get more money from his car since they were $24 short so she placed the truck on the floor behind the cash register.

The man returned moments later.

Police confirm that's when the man distracted Sabrowsky and the kids made off with the truck.

"These kids … I don't know what kind of future they're gonna have, if any," she said.

Hours later, when they couldn't find the truck, the owners reviewed security tape and called police, but not because of the lost truck. They say it's because they feel the boys need help.

Anyone with more information about this incident was asked to call Huntington Beach police.
