2 LA-Area Men Killed When Vehicle Strikes Tree In Palm Springs

PALM SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say two Los Angeles-area men were killed when the vehicle they were traveling in lost control and slammed into a palm tree in Palm Springs.

The driver, described as a 21-year-old, was a resident of Winnetka. His sole passenger, a 38-year-old resident from Los Angeles, was also killed.

Palm Springs police Sgt. Melissa Desmarais told City News Service that the Saturday evening collision on Indian Canyon Drive and Racquet Club Road triggered a flood of 911 calls.

The accident occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m.

Desmarais said officers have since learned that the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to subsequently veer into the westbound lanes.

The accident also prompted officers to temporarily shut down Racquet Club Road between Indian Canyon Drive and Via Miraleste.
