2 Drivers Killed In Fiery Crash In Harbor Gateway

HARBOR GATEWAY (CBSLA) — Two drivers were killed in a fiery crash in Harbor Gateway early Saturday.

The crash unfolded around 4:15 a.m. on the northbound lanes to the 110 Freeway expressway. The impact of the crash caused a raging fire, with both cars going up in flames. The flames could be seen for quite a distance.

Investigators first reported that the crash seemed to be the result of a wrong-way driver, but later said the official cause was unknown.

"For an unknown reason, both vehicles collided into each other, causing major damage to both vehicles and fatal injuries to both parties,'' said California Highway Patrol Sgt. J. Sanchez.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which remains under investigation.
