2 Hikers, Dog Safely Rescued After Getting Lost In Angeles National Forest

ALTADENA (CBSLA.com) — Two hikers and their dog were safely rescued early Monday morning after being lost in the Angeles National Forest.

The 22-year-old man and 21-year-old woman started a hike around 4 p.m. Sunday near Rubio Canyon, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

They called 911 around 11:30 p.m. when they became lost on an unfamiliar trail in the darkness.

Search crews were able to make voice contact with the pair and led them, along with their dog Cheerios, out to safety around 2 a.m., officials said.

Authorities warn residents to always prepare for the unexpected when enjoying the outdoors. An LASD Search and Rescue Hiking Plan sheet should be filled out before a hiking/camping expedition.
