2 Boys In Indio Attacked By 4-Year-Old Pit Bull

INDIO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say two boys in Indio were attacked by a 4-year-old pit bull on Saturday night.

The Riverside County Department of Animal Services said in a written statement that the boys, ages 11 and 5, were outside when the leashed dog broke free from a temporary restraint and bit the children.

The incident happened about 7:30 p.m.

The statement said the 5-year-old sustained a bite to the back of his head, while the older boy suffered bites to his stomach and hand.

"The owner of the dog surrendered him to Riverside County Animal Services for humane euthanasia," the statement added.

Authorities also said the dog had previously been placed on a potentially dangerous dog restraining order back in April after it bit its owner's son in the head.

The current condition of the two boys was not known.
