2 Bodies Found In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) —The bodies of a man and a woman were found Monday near each other in Long Beach, but police say there was no apparent connection between the two deaths.

Officers were dispatched at about 5:50 a.m. to the 5400 block of Ocean Boulevard on the report of a dead body on the beach, and found a man on the sand near the waterline with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

"The deceased individual on the beach is a male adult with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper torso," Long Beach police Sgt. Brad Johnson said.

The man, who was in his 40s, was found nude.

During the investigation, officers discovered the body of a woman inside a parked SUV nearby, Johnson said.

The woman, who was also in her 40s, apparently died of natural causes, Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said.

Their names were withheld pending family notification.

Police searched the beach and the water near the shoreline for a weapon, but none was found as of late Monday morning.
