2 Killed In Hit-And-Run In Chatsworth

CHATSWORTH (CBSLA.com) — Two people have been arrested, one of which was released, in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left two people dead in the San Fernando Valley Friday.

Authorities said a man and woman were taken into custody a short distance away from the crash, which unfolded about 10:35 p.m. in Chatsworth.

The suspect's vehicle was heading eastbound on Chatsworth Street at De Soto Avenue when authorities say it ran a red light, and slammed into a GMC pickup truck.

The impact forced the truck on its side, killing two men inside. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

After the crash, authorities allege that two inside the suspect vehicle fled on foot, rather than rendering aid.

"Both occupants of that vehicle, after the traffic collision, they left the scene," said Det. Bill Bustos of the LAPD. "The driver's responsibility was to remain, provide his information, render aid by calling 911. But that person chose to leave."

Authorities said they took two people into custody. The suspected driver was identified by police as 21- year-old Dylan Shane Rutherford. Rutherford has been booked on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter, and driving under the influence. His bail was set at $200,000.

The second person arrested was released and not charged, authorities said.
