2 Arrested After Laser Is Pointed At Sheriff's Helicopter In Temecula

TEMECULA (CBSLA.com) — Two family members Wednesday faced criminal charges after they pointed a laser at a helicopter, authorities said.

Abrahim, 20, and Shaun Khan, 18, were arrested Monday on suspicion of intentionally discharging a laser at an aircraft, Temecula police said.

The Riverside Sheriff's Department was assisting police with an unrelated investigation when the agency's helicopter was illuminated several times "by a laser light from a nearby single-family residence," authorities said.

The laser can cause severe difficulty with piloting an aircraft, and in some cases, can cause temporary pilot blindness.

Deputies quickly located the residence and arrested Abrahim and Shaun Khan and booked them into the Southwest Jail.

The two men face three years in state prison if convicted.
